Many collectors feel that Westminster is THE FINEST classical vinyl ever manufactured, and this set is HIGHLY prized by audiophiles!! It's an ORIGINAL ISSUE of this Deluxe set and comes in an oversized, foldout album-style sleeve(it's more like a conventional "album" for photographs than a standard box set) that is a magnetic silver color and contains the seven LPs in individual hinged sleeves that are protected by a foldover plastic inner sleeve. The inside of the front board has a sleeve that houses a nice, FORTY PAGE book with full details regarding Beethoven, the composition and performance of the Symphonies, and the details of this performance. The conductor is the great HERMANN SCHERCHEN, who leads the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Philarmonic Symphony Orchestra of London in the performances. On the Ninth "Choral" Symphony, Scherchen is joined by soloists MAGDA LASZLO, soprano; HILDE ROESSEL-MAJDAN, contralto; PETRE MUNTEANU, tenor; and PICHARD STANDEN, bass. Scherchen's approach to Beethoven is refreshingly robust and earthy on all of these performances, and the version of "Eroica" Symphony No. 3 here in particular is almost without question the most exhuberant and exciting ever recorded! An amazing find!!
